Gorey Celtic 1 - 2 Bridge Rovers

We bowed out of the cup at the hands of Bridge Rovers 2-1 after extra time ....

It was a cold Saturday afternoon up in Mullaunfin and the lads were up for this as they haven't played a game since December 10th, which I think is crazy no league games and not allowed to play friendlies at home which works against everything we are trying to do with the lads but I should leave that for another day.
The lads couldn't find the right gear and found themselves 1-0 down after 10 minutess and we should have been down more but for the excellent Corey Chambers in goal who was in top form. We had a chance or two ourselves but Bridge were by far the better team in the first half .

H.T. 0-1

The lads got a roasting from Alan and myself and were told they had five minutes to start passing the ball around like we do in each training session and show a bit more composure on the ball or changes would be made. The lads took to the field with a new attitude and it showed with a bit more pace and stringing some passes together. We were starting to look like a team now even though we could only find 3rd gear at best.
Now we are starting to get the upper hand and bang the solid Cian Byrne pulls up with an injury and we get Aaron Doyle, minutes later our captain Ben Clarke pulls up with a groin injury and he is replaced by Alex Behan, now another re-jig of the team JJ Larkin back to central midfield. We're battling well now, win the ball in the middle of the park brushes off a couple challenges threads the ball through to Aaron Heffernan who smashes the ball into there net. Game on 1-1. We kept pressing but still no break with the clock ticking and the excellent Sean lavery at centre half made sure there was no leaks at the back so we throw on big Alan McPartlin up front in place of Jordan Doyle and Ryan Mooney on for the tiring Ian Barnes but neither team could buy the winning goal.

F.T. 1-1

Extra time now and we looked like the side who was more hungier for the win but with only 2 minutes left and it looking like a penalty shoot was going to decide the outcome Bridge get a corner which finds their man unmarked who heads them into the next round.

The lads were unlucky but that is the cup ....Well done Bridge Rovers and best of luck on your cup run.
