New Ross Celtic 7 - 0 Gorey Celtic
A big cup game in New Ross and a full 13 in the travelling party and playing without doubt the best under 16 side in Wexford, I thought they where a bit better than Moyne Rangers who i still think are 2nd best, but are miles better and may give them the cup now, because I don't think there is a team in Wexford even on the same wave length.
Sean Kelly coming back in to partner Ross O'Connor, Renar going wide left, Eoghon Murphy dropping out, and the rest the same as our last game in Wexford albion 5 weeks ago.
We started really well and forced a couple of good chances, a free from Jared McGirr bobbling around in the box and Mikey Burke unlucky with a header, then after a great run from John Dunbar who left two defenders in his wake, let fly in the box and the keeper made a excellent save one handed and got cleared in the scramble, 15 mins in and New Ross get a corner and the big centre half up from the back got on the end of it and beat Jakub on the near post, 1-0 down again rallied and after a great move down the left found Mikey who laid off to Jared and tried for the top corner but just going over the bar and happy enough with the effort, 25 minutes in Jakub has a slip with a goalkick and the striker taps home from the edge of the box, 2-0 down and a head or two drops, soon became 3 and now in real trouble.
Thought if we could get to the break at 3 we could rally a troop or 2, our skipper not right either carry a groin injury, and a min before the break got done wide again and tie over at 4-0.
H.T 4-0.
We got Eoghon Murphy and Michael Browne on for Ciaran Finn and Ross Reardon, pushed Ross O'Connor in to midfield and was just playing to keep the score down now, I know 4 or 5 of the New Ross lads from county circles but to be fair have they 8 or 9 lads that could play at that level and are miles ahead of the rest of the teams in Wexford, have done the double the last 2 years and will make it a treble double this year too.
They were a pleasure to watch and we or no one else is going to touch this side in my opinion, Ross added a fifth with a great header, young Rhodes smashed home a 6th from distance, to be fair the Celtic boys kept trying and kept there discipline and kept playing there football, but was as tough a game I've ever being involved in. In my 16 seasons of schoolboy football this was my heavest defeat and this side could play in any top league in any county in Ireland and more than hold there own, Ross added a 7th and were very clinical and ruthless, spoke to the manager after and he agreed we where never 4 goals worse at halftime and should have been 1-0 up and also should have being level at 1-1, and he said theyre putting 10 and 12 past division 1 sides, no excuses are in a league of their own and enjoyed watching them although was very tough.
There was a few positives, Jay Cullen, Ross O'Connor, Jared McGirr and John Dunbar all good games, Mikey Burke worked his socks off and my best player on the day. This was and is the toughest draw in cup football in the county and wish who ever next the best of luck because there going to need it and more.
As for us we've crept back into the league reckoning and put this expierence to bed and move on and focus on our own quest for back to back promotions.
