Gorey Celtic 2 - 1 Bridge Rovers

The Celtic Youths got there season up and running against a very bright and talented bridge rovers side with a win but where made work and pushed us all the way.

Went with our 3-5-2 system with Ciaran Gartland, Darragh Curran and Mark Doran, our 2 wing backs Adam roche and Sammy. Shane Troope in the middle with Mossy, Luca Consentino in the hole behind Adam Connor partnering Darren Brennan up top.
We had four debutants and was a new look side and playing against a team that won our division at under 16 last year was always a tough opener.

Started off really well and Darren Brennans strong running always a problem and the Craft of Mossy, Troope and Consentino who could open any defence, the excellent width provided by the classy Sammy and Adam Roche always a handful going foward and young Adam Connor the most unselfish centre foward in the game, not to mention the 3 centre halves strong and brave as lions.
We should really have been 2 or 3 up (darren) when Bridge opened the scoring totally against the run of play, the lively number 6 smashed a great shot after we failed (again) to deal with a throw in. There's a real team spirit to this side and have came back 4 or 5 times in pre-season to win or draw when going behind and we never panic but just keep playing our football and knew we'd get back into it and when we did it was our little gem in the middle of the park after great work from Sammy and a great cross Troope finished with a great near post header.

H.T. 1-1

Spoke to Luca at half time and felt he could be the 1 to open them up because he drifts into good areas and is hard to mark and plays in that pocket behind the front 2 and has goals in him (seen none last year).
The goal when it came right after the re-start is what the game is all about...pass, move, pass move, 6 or 7 passes that the opposition couldn't get near and finishing of the highest order.

Really thought we'd kick on and win with a bit to spare but credit Bridge never lay down and kept coming back for more and could have easily left with a point and will be tough down in Castlebridge in the return and are going to have to be at our best to get a result.

Great game for the netural and a great advert for the game, where football and two honest sides were the real winners. Pitch must be one the best in Wexford, pleasure to play on that surface and a very good referee who misses very little.

Hard to pick a man of the match because there where 4 or 5 including the Bridge number 6, but giving Mr. Doran my top score 9 out of 10, won every header, every tackle and started where he left off in Holland.

Team: James Flood, Ciaran Gartland, Darragh Curran, Mark Doran, Adam Roche, Sammy, Shane Troope, Mossy, Luca Consentino, Adam Connor, Darren Brennan.

Subs: Adam Ellard, Jamie Finn, Martin Wadding, Adam Thompson, Joe McNulty, Peter Byrne, Jordan Davies, Gavin
