Rosslare Port 1 - 4 Gorey Celtic

Driving down to Rosslare on Sunday morning myself and Tilly were discussing our chances and agreed that we would be happy with a point in this one. Having said that when we put the team down on paper it had a solid look to it with the combination of "experienced" (very experienced !!) defenders and proven attackers who can cause any team trouble.

Changes in selection from week to week are more or less inevitable when you are the 3rd team in a club and this week was no exception. Brian Maher came in for Damien Mordalski at centre-half, Thomas Crofts dropped back into centre field to partner the impressive Stephen Kinsella and the two Mordaunts, Lee and James started up front.

We started well in this game and it was clear to see from early on that Celtic had turned up to compete. We lost Tony Browne and Chris Cullen, both to injury in the first half. Mark Doran came in at left full, and Matthew Murray came in to Centre field with Stephen Kinsella dropping back to right full.
On 20 minutes we made a breakthrough with a goal of the highest quality. James Mordaunt, as instructed, was dropping deep to help out midfield and from here he picked up possession on the edge of the Celtic penalty area. He quickly spread the ball wide right to the rampaging Richie Quinn who burned his man and whipped in the type of cross that strikers dream of and defenders hate. There on the end of it was James Mordaunt who met it with a sweet left foot volley.

This was a tough game of football and Port had their chances as well. They were unlucky when a shot crashed off the bar towards the end of the first half. We were very pleased to get in at half-time and re-group.

H.T. 0-1

We didn't start the second half well and were on the back foot quickly. We weathered the storm though and James Mordaunt gave us breathing space with a well taken second. Rosslare Port got a deserved goal back and it was game on. If anything this seemed to reignite Celtic and when James Mordaunt completed his hat-trick the points were safe.
Marc Walsh earned a late penalty which Thomas Crofts cooly slotted away to make the game absolutely safe.

A great team performance with every man standing tall against a big physical side on a small exposed pitch. Very proud of everyone today with special mentions for the versatile and dogged Stephen Kinsella, the cool, calm and collected Mark Doran and the evergreen Pa Murphy. Also Brian Donohoe never put a foot wrong in goal and a special word for Podge Lucas who made the trip despite being injured to give us a 14th man.

Team: Brian Donohoe, Chris Cullen(Capt), Tony Browne, Pa Murphy, Brian Maher, Thomas Crofts, Richie Quinn, Stephen Kinsella, Lee Mordaunt, James Mordaunt, Marc Walsh

Subs: Mark Doran for Browne(inj), Matthew Murray for Cullen(inj) and Podge Lucas.
