Gorey Celtic 6 - 0 St Josephs
A nice fresh morning in Gorey for our 11.00 kickoff, the team showing one personal change and a couple of positional chances from last weeks win in Bunclody, Jordan Davies in for Ross Reardon who was on duty with the under 16 team, to partner Shane Troope in the engine room, moved Luca Consentino back in the hole behind the ever improving front two, and Sammy Keogh going into right wing back.
We started well and is funny how young lads seem to be testing out the opposition, as in "what are these like", like a sparring session in boxing, but I think the boys knew early enough that this was only a matter of time before they went for the kill
These lads are a credit to the club and I know I speak for Joe, John and Tom "whos always there" these lads would run themselves in to the ground if we asked.
The old saying "can only beat whats in front of you" these young men have another gear and can raise there game again and are playing at a decent level in division 1 where most of the sides try to keep the ball on the ground and play football but thiswas the most one sided game I've seen in years, and maybe the league should of looked at their grading system that they used following the FAI age re-alignment.
I honestly can only remember one chance they had, when Mark Doran moved to midfield and Davies slotted to centre half and James Flood had to make a decent stop. Our number 9 after his cracker last week done it again with a fab free kick for our and his 2nd after a tap in first when I honestly thought he was offside, his pace and movement is quality and went on to grab the match ball in the 1st half and the man of the match award.
Well done Darren
H.T. 3-0
Half time speech was all about them to be professional, no yellow cards, a clean sheet and grab another couple and the boys again done it in style, young Adam Connor grabbing his 1st of the season after hitting a post and bar 1st half, Young Adam Roche getting his 2nd of the season and Mr Troope getting his 3rd in 3 games.
The strength of the woodwork was also tested 5 or 6 times aswell and it could have been any score but more important was the work rate and the clean sheet.
The back 3 were excellent once and can see they want clean sheets as much as Flood in the celtic goal. Jordan Davied worked his socks off in the holding role on his first start on his return to the club from DDSL side St Josephs. Troope, Consentino, Keogh and Adam Roche are very good going foward, and the boys up front could both have got hat tricks on another day, although 4 out of six goals a great return for a new pairing thats growing by the week.
We also got the chance to give the five subs a run out again which is important and all done very well and we were sorry to them that Joeys blew up with 15 mins to go just so the subs could have got more game time but it was a great 75 minute showing from the 16 involved bit sterner tests lie ahead.
A break from league action this coming Saturday as we're in the Leinster Youth Cup, facing another St Josephs side, this time from the Carlow League.
