Courtown Hibs 0 - 5 Gorey Celtic
A Sunday afternoon kick off in Courtown in a local derby, cup football doesn't get much better. Got the response I was looking for after the defeat to Corach in style hitting 5 without reply.
Jamie Cullen passing a late fitness test on a knee injury at 2.30 and the only change at right back for a unlucky Micheal Browne.
These young boys are a fine outfit and sometimes I've noticed play better away from home for some strange reason, having not lost an away game in Wexford now since September 2009, when we lost 1-0 in Cloughbawn at the start of the 2009/10 season. Our last 4 defeats over 2 years coming at home!!!
We where slow to settle and no real shape to the game and poor enough viewing if I'm honest, but Celtic trying to play in the strong cross winds. We won a free kick out wide right and Ross Reardon fancied it straight away and wind assisted bent it in to the bottom corner to put us 1-0 up. This gave us the boost we where looking for and settled us down. Started to play our football and the back 4 dealing with any long Courtown punts. Jared McGirr and Rossi now on top and after another assit for Ross O'Connor at centre half, John Dunbar went on a merry dance and left three defenders in his wake and finished brilliantly left footed in the corner, 2-0 up.
We had a couple of decent half chances from Renar, Lee Carabini and Mikey Burke getting us to the break fairly comfortably.
H.T. 0-2
Told the boys that their good fitness levels would get them home and that we had to be strong mentally, because they were going to have a go with the breeze against them now and to be fair the back four dealt with every thing with no fuss, Jakub in goal also sharp and quick off his line.
Lee Carabini started to see more of the ball wide right and worked an opening for John Dunbar and still with a bit to do produced a top finish from a really acute angle, 3 up and game safe. Emptied the bench with Eoghan Murphy and Micheal Browne on first and we break again with Eoghan passing to Rossi who smacks a left foot rocket from just outside the box that gave the keeper no chanceto put us 4-0 up.
Young Robert Dunbar on now with our other top under 14 Lee Cullen and Rossi showing great fitness levels breaks again from deep inside our on half and sets up Lee Cullen who finished clinically in the bottom corner.
Great second half performance when John Dunbar and Ross reardon could have got hat tricks, Mikey Burke also hit the bar and as the score suggests quite comfortable. The boys where top class and a great effort beating two Premier sides now to progress to the last 64 where we got a home tie to look foward too.
Back 4 where immense but going to give the nod to our captain Ross Reardon for a great display in the engine room.
well done to the 15, great away day again
