Gorey Celtic 2 - 1 Forth Celtic

Celtic 3rds picked up a hard earned 3 points at home in this game.

The first half belonged to Celtic and we were really penetrating the Forth Celtic defence at will but were not applying the finish to a number of good moves. It did seem only a matter of time until we would make the breakthrough and when it came it was top scorer James Mordaunt who calmly finished with his weaker right foot.
Terry Carey and Mordaunt were keeping the visitors back four busy, while in midfield Stephen Kinsella was putting in a serious shift. We got number two after a bit of a scramble at a corner. Big Damien Mordalski put order on things by driving the ball to the back of the net for his first of the season. Damien was close with headers at a couple of corners last week and can definitely add goals to his game this season.

Bar a bit of hesitancy defending a corner at the end of the half I dont recall any serious threat to the Celtic goal during the first half. We hoped to put the game to bed early in the second half and give our subs as much game time as possible but Forth proved a tougher nut to crack than we would have liked.

H.T. 2-0

The second half was fairly even and when we withdrew Brian Leonard from midfield due to an ongoing niggle we seemed to drop a little deep and invite the opposition forward. Forth punished us and got the goal their pressure deserved. We were still breaking forward and could have put the game to bed on several occassions.

We will have to be more clinical as these type of games will not always go our way but today it did and overall we were pleased with the ways the lads battled when it was put up to them by the opposition.
Good performances from Pa Murphy, Stephen Kinsella and Terry Carey
