St Cormacs 3 - 2 Gorey Celtic
This was a tough game played in very tough conditions. My honest appraisal at the end the better team won.
We took the lead in the first half through James Mordaunt, a left footed strike from well outside the area and it rifled in across the keeper. A great goal. We went through a good spell and were getting good possession in midfield, the final ball was proving tricky though. We were punished when Cormacs got in for an equaliser, their young centre forward showing good pace and composure to put away his chance.
H.T. 1-1
Going in 1-1 at half time and its all to play for. We didn't start the second half well but were still in it when we took the lead. Mark Doran's cross caught in the wind and despite the keepers best efforts to re-adjust he could only push the ball up into his own net.
We still were not dominating and the heavy pitch was starting to take its toll. We lost Chris Cullen to a leg injury, and soon after Cormacs desevedly equalised. They had all the momentum now and were cutting through at will. It was almost inevitable that they would find a winner and they duly did.
We lost Brian Maher and Brian Leonard to leg injuries before the end. James Mordaunt had a decent chance to level it up at the death but credit to the Cormacs keeper who made a good stop.
Thanks to the youths goalkeeper James Flood who gave us a dig out today and never put a foot wrong. Good performances also from Stephen Kinsella and Graham Geraghty.
Team: James Flood, Stephen Kinsella, Chris Cullen(Capt.), Damien Mordalski, Brian Maher, Brian Leonard, Richie Quinn, Mark Doran, Graham Geraghty, Marc Walsh, James Mordant
Subs: Podge Lucas for Cullen, Lee Mordaunt for Maher, and Matthew Murray for Leonard.
