Gorey Celtic 4 - 0 Rosslare Rangers
The under 16s made it 3 wins from 4 played and wiped out the disappointment of the Corach defeat with a four star performance. 4th game of the season and our first on a Saturday for some strange reason, but the boys well up for it.
A huge Rosslare team togged out and a team that finished 3rd last year and just missed out on promotion and felt be a good test. 1 change from our big cup win in Courtown, Eoghan Murphy in for Renar who dropped out with a knock.
We decided to go with the wind first half again hoping we could get a goal or two and keep the ball 2nd half because we've good lads who are very fit and can play and keep the ball. Couple of good chances in the first 20/25 minutes through Mikey Burke, Lee Carabini and John Dunbar but looked like was going to be a tight affair, then Mikey found a yard and squared to Eoghan who burst into the box and from a tight angle drove home left footed for his 1st goal in his first start for the 1st team.
I honestly don't think there's a better two central midfielders at under 16 in the county as a pair than our two and when Jared McGirr found Ross Reardon a few minutes later you just knew goal, and Ross didn't disappoint the usual trade mark strike from distance, 2-0 up.
Were now well on top and when Eoghan found a yard in the box lashed home in the corner for a 3 -0 halftime lead that I never seen coming after the opening 25 minutes.
H.T. 3-0
The message at half time, brilliant 15 minute spell now lets be professional and not make a mistake and win the game.
The wind died down which was a help and again passed well and Rossi unlucky twice hitting the bar, and Lee down the right beating his full back and getting great crosses in that Mikey and John unlucky with, we looked the more likelyto get another.
After a great 60 minutes Eoghan Murphy came off to a great reception, just feeling the pace of the game, and Michael Browne comes in who always gives a 100% and a great team player. Then our play maker Jared wins a crunching 50/50 and plays a great ball into Mikey and hits a shot with the outside of the boot that finds the back of the net for his first goal for the club, but certainly not his last to five us a 4 goal lead..... home and hosed.
Got Robbie Duunbar and Lee Cullen on and again never put a foot wrong and getting stronger and the confidence that will only benefit the under 14s.
I knew the boys would bounce back from the Corach game and was very pleased with the effort and work rate. Eoghan, Jared, Rossi, Lee, Rocco, Ciaran, all great games but Sean Kelly was top notch and gets my man of the match....used to sing about des walker..but you'll never beat Sean Kelly......a greyhound.
Well done boys, top performance
