Sunday 27th November 2011

Ajax Athletic 2 - 0 Gorey Celtic

We traveled to Enniscorthy on Sunday afternoon with 11 senior players and 3 youths, two of whom would be still under 16 under the old system. With this in mind the team picked itself with the 11 seniors starting and the youths acting as back up from the bench.

I feel that we started OK in this game and were comfotable all over the park. Lee Mordaunt, making his first start of the season, was holding the ball up well, while Stephen Kinsella and Marc Walshe were getting a good foothold in midfield. On 25 minutes we conceded a soft goal, the type that is killing us at the moment. At 1-0 down we were still OK as the game had a long way to run. On the stroke of half time an Ajax player suffered a horror injury in a full blooded tackle with a Celtic defender. Both players got loads on the ball and something had to give.

H.T. 1-0

The half time interval became a 40 minute waiting game with the injured player in considerable distress. After the Ambulance crew had departed the second half commenced with Adam Connor and Shane Troope joining the fray for the injured Tony Browne and Brian Leonard. In fairness the 2 lads freshened things up and both looked comfortable at this level. On the hour mark we conceded a penalty and Ajax made no mistake.
We got Joe McNulty on and he did well also. The match was played out with both teams creating chances under a darkening evening sky.

Thoughts of everyone were with the injured player and all at Gorey Celtic wish him a full and speedy recovery.
