Gorey Celtic 3 - 2 Crossabeg
Another lunch time kick off for the boys which we like with the lie on and playing the unbeaten joint leaders on a windy but fresh day. A full squad for only the 2nd time this season and a unchanged side from our win in Enniscorthy.
We played with the wind 1st half and got of to a great start after 4 corners 2 from either side from Jared McGirr and Ross Reardon, the last one from Ross hit Ciaran Finn and after the confusion the big centre foward trying to clear put past his own keeper, 1-0 up inside 10 mins. We tried to play in the tough conditions but became tougher in the strong wind. Ross O'Connor made a great run from his own half and just as he was about to pull the trigger got a bobble and ended up going wide. Then rossi picked up about 25 yards out and hit a half shot and turned in disgust thinking the keeper will claim that and then had a "what happened next moment" the keeper thinking it was going wide went to leave it and sure enough went inside the post to put us 2 up, and Ross didn't even see it go in having giving it up. Felt we needed a third because Crossabeg where a big side with a couple of decent players and after a great run from Eoghan Murphy found Mikey Burke, he really should of squared for John Dunbar to tap in but after his hat trick last week had other ideas, but shot wide.
H.T. 2-0.
We spoke to the boys about defending in numbers because it was clear what Crossabeg where going to do with a even stronger wind blowing now and a 6ft 2 center foward, but also felt we could nick one on the break.
Lee Carabini gave away a cheap free kick early in the second half and the big man got on the end of it, 2-1 and game on. The game was becoming a scrap now and got Renar on for his physical presence and his strong running, but we shoot ourselves in the foot again when John Dunbar gives away another soft free and again they lump it in and jakub under pressure can't hold on and the striker taps home to make it 2-2 and now got to start again after all our good work 1st half.
Credit the boys, lesser sides would have folded under the pressure, after losing a 2 goal lead, but the lads rolled up there sleeves and went looking for a winner, got Michael Browne on for a tiring Mikey and pushed Eoghan up front and switched Renar and Lee, and started to ask all the questions.
A quick look at the watch and are in the last minute and Jamie Cullen picks up and runs from right back, frees Lee who beats a man and plays a great ball into Renar whos came inside from wide left and strokes home from 20 yards under the keeper 3-2 and less than 20 seconds on the clock. We hold on for the 3 minutes of injury time and a big 3 points,
Told the boys we had to win before the game and they showed great disire and passion to get the job done, wasn't pretty in the strong wind but gets us back into the race in a very competitive division with very little between 5 or 6 sides.
Good shifts from all and was no stand out player, Jamie Cullen having his best game since the cup win against Moyne, Jared kept us ticking over, but going with Eoghan Murphy for the man of the match, great going foward and finished 80 minutes for the first time and starting to find his feet and settle into the 1st team.
On the road the next few games so keep up the workrate and effort.
