Park Hotspur 3 - 0 Gorey Celtic
Another Sunday and another long journey for the 3rd team. This time we headed for Taghmon and beyond to Horetown, the home of Park Hotspur.
We started with James Flood in goal and David Conway joined James Mordaunt in attack. Brian Leonard dropped back to partner Brian Maher in the heart of the defence and this released Stephen Kinsella into midfield where we felt he could be most effective.
It was clear to see from the off that we were up against a young, athletic side who are a lot better than their League position suggests. We had a good opening to the game including one spell where we kept possession for about 30 passes without a Park Hotspur man getting a touch. However as the half wore on it was James Flood who kept us in the game with a string of excellent saves.
Approaching half time Brian Maher was struggling with a hamstring injury and was replaced at the break by Chris Cullen.
We never really had a cutting edge today and were not getting beyond the last man enough to cause the home team trouble. Even though Park Hotspur were fully deserving of their win, I don't think we were 3 goals worse than them. However, thats football and we made the long journey home empty handed.
This team is not exactly getting any breaks at the moment with long away trips combined with afternoon kick-offs. Some of the younger lads then have to head off to college on a Sunday evening. However, on the plus side, most of the heavy travelling is now done and the same young lads never complain.
We are at home this weekend to Rosbercon who gave us a proper thumping down there, so we will have to man up and see if we can give a better account of ourselves at home.
Best on the day were James Flood, Tony Browne and Marc Walsh.
Team: James Flood, Richie Quinn, Tony Browne, Brian Maher, Brian Leonard (Capt), Mark Doran, Graham Geraghty, Stephen Kinsella, James Mordaunt, David Conway, Marc Walsh
Subs: Chris Cullen For Brian Maher (inj), Lee Mordaunt for Mark Doran.
