Sunday 4th December 2011

Gorey Celtic 0 - 0 Rosslare Port

The 3rd team played out a scoreless draw with Rosslare Port in bitter conditions in Mullaunfin on Sunday afternoon. After a run of defeats any type of result is welcome and we would not have been flattered had this one been a victory.

We started well well with young Shane Troope in the middle of the park and Ciaran Gartland at centre-half both fitting in seamlessly. Tony Browne moved to left wing, and he along with Troope and Mark Doran were getting Celtics passing game going. Stephen Kinsella was his usual all-action self and he really allows those around him to play. Lee Mordaunt was holding the ball up well and laying it off nicely while David Conway is always a threat.

We had some good play in the 1st half and the best chances we created saw us hit the post twice, Tony Browne with a header and David Conway with a shot across the face of goal. Rosslare Port had their chances too but the defence and Arthur Guz in goal were equal to all they had to offer. We lost Mark Doran to a leg injury in the first half and we wish him a speedy return to action.

H.T. 0-0

The temperature dropped even further in the second half and there was a real ice in the trademark Mullaunfin wind. Mark Walsh, who came on for Tony Browne and Richie Quinn, who wasn't started because of a leg injury, were starting to get some joy on the flanks. Jamie Finn was on for Mordaunt and it looked like we could nick the 3 points. When the chances came they were gilt-edged and they fell to Quinn who will score from harder chances than these. It was not to be and a draw was a fair and welcome result after the run we've endured.

Best on the day were Ciaran Gartland, Artur Guz and Shane Troope
