Sunday 18th December 2011

Gorey Celtic 0 - 0 Shelburne

For the 3rd week in a row the thirds drew 0-0. This was a solid 90 minutes from the lads and an important one too with two young stars of the club making their senior debuts.

Ross Reardon started at left full back and Gavin Walker started on the opposite side of the back four. Both lads were instructed to get on the ball and to get forward and they didn't disappoint. Ross was involved in everything from the get go and showed his class throughout the game. Gavin made a more tentative start but settled quickly and was always looking for action up the right hand side of the pitch. He was unlucky to see a left footed piledriver fly wide after a great run into the heart of the Shelbourne defence.

Stephen Kinsella was back in central midfield and as always provided the platform for those around him to play. There were no major talking points from the first half and we went in at half time in a comfortable position.

H.T. 0-0

In the second half on the big heavy pitch the game really opened up and it was end to end. When Ross Reardon moved forward into midfield he really took the game by the scruff of the neck. Despite this, we couldn't find a breakthrough and thankfully, nor could they.
When we got thumped earlier in the season down in Rosbercon I never thought we would be involved in 3 straight 0-0 draws before Christmas but that is how we finish 2011. 3 games, a point from each and 3 clean sheets. Definitely something to build on for 2012, and those points could be important in the final tally, s we are now hovering around the relegation zone.

Huge positives today in the performances of the two young debutantes as well as young Jamie Cullen and Joe McNulty who both did well when they came off the bench. Its great to see these young lads making a start on their senior careers and, to that end, it allows the 3rd team to fufill a very useful function within the club.

Happy Christmas and a Healthy New Year to all the lads involved in the squad.
