Wexford Albion 2 - 7 Gorey Celtic

A lovely but cold morning in Wexford town against Wexford Albion brought our 3rd win on the bounce and hit 7 in a game we controlled from start to finish. A couple of changes with Sean Kelly and Micheal Browne injured, Renar in for his first start since September, partnering Ross O'Connor at centre half and Ciaran Finn going back to left back and Eoghan Murphy wide left.

We settled quickly and Ross Reardon had 3 long range shots just going wide and looked only a matter of time before we opened the scoring, had never played Wexford Albion before and didn't know what to expect, but was told they where OK, although there pitch was awful and very hard to get our passing game going on it.

10 minutes in a Lee Carabini beaten his full 2 or 3 times gets his head up and after a bit of encouragement rolls back to Jamie Cullen who takes a touch gets inside the box and finds the bottom corner, 1-0 up, great strike, gets better 10 minutes later after a corner from Ross the defender jumps up and handles the ball right in front of the referee strange 1, but Rossi lashes home to make it 2-0, the 3rd was a great team goal, Rocco finds Lee wide right, lee passes to Ross, Ross on to Jared McGirr, who the finds Eoghan and the excellent Ciaran overlapping gets it of Eoghan, cuts back on to his right and picks out Mikey Burke who finds the corner with a bullet header, 3-0 and as good a goal you'd see anywhere at any level. Very comfortable now and get to the break in total control.

H.T. 3-0

I think we forgot to come out 2nd half because Wexford Albion scored straight from the whistle, Jamie got caught wrong side and the centre foward bounced off him and the ref gives a penalty and Jamie only standing his ground, they score the penalty to make it 3-1. The boys upped the anti again and Lee and Eoghan switching wings and like our last away game Lee cuts in from the left and has a great shot that was going in any way but the defender trying to block just helped it on its way, 4-1.

We got a few corners and after it came back to Ross he found John Dunbar who knocked it back for the on rushing Jared to tap home from 2 yards, 5-1, We lost Lee Carabini to injury and Robbie Dunbar comes in wide right, then Lee Cullen replaces his brother Jamie with 20 mins left and looked like the game was going to peter out, and a big thanks to the two under 14s who are top players and never look out of place in this side or this level.

Renar should have got his goal that his run deserved but just couldn't connect. Jared gave away a free in the 2nd last minute and they scored when 3 or 4 where offside. 5-2 but still had time for Mikey to grab his 2nd with a great strike in the corner 6-2, and a welcome goal for John Dunbar who smashed home a great volley with the last kick of the game for number 7.

A great team effort where the 13 on duty where top drawer and played some great football on a poor pitch, Ciaran Finn, Mikey Burke, Renar, Jamie Cullen all super but the old war horse in the middle of the park a class act and gets my man of the match, take a bow Jared McGirr.
