Gorey Celtic B 2 - 0 Cloughbawn B
After the disappointing defeat last week Celtics B team were eager to get back on track and they did so with a battling win over a hard working Cloughbawn side
Celtic started slow some misplaced passes in defence giving Cloughbawn a couple of early chances to take the lead and only for a mixture of good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the game scoreless. Celtic seemed to lack spark and imgination in the opening 45 mins, no sharpness in their passing or movement off the ball and having very little to show in the way of goal chances. An even 1st half with neither team doing enough to deserve the lead.
H.T.: 0-0
Whatever was said to Celtic in the changing room at half-time work a treat, they came out a totally different team in the second half, using the ball and the space to their advantage, Celtic really started to take the game to Cloughbawn and had a couple of early chances to take the lead but the Cloughbawn defense held firm.
Celtic took the lead on 65 mins, Joe Roche swinging in a left foot corner which deceived the Cloughbawn defenders and goalkeeper and went straight in, the breakthrough Celtic deserved.
Celtic were well on top at this stage with Cloughbawn offering very little going forward, saying that Cloughbawn had the chance of the match, after a quick break down the right wing and following a good cross, the Cloughbawn attacker found him unmarked 6 yards from goal but amazingly mis-hit his shot and was unable to hit the target. A huge let-off for Celtic and almost immediately went down the field and punished Cloughbawn, Padraic Moran finding the net after a nice throughball.
The 2nd goal really took the wind out of Cloughbawns sail and Celtic went on to dominate the remainder of the game without increasing their 2 goal advantage.
A poor first half showing, different team in the second half, great to get 3 points after losing last week.
