Cloughbawn under 14s 1 - 0 Gorey Celtic under 14 A

Celtic U14s travelled to Cloughbawn last Saturday for their opening game of the 20009-10 season. Just how they came home without anything to show for a battling performance is a mystery. Playing against a physically bigger and stronger team, Celtic took the game to Cloughbawn from the start, only for an inspired display from the Cloughbawn goalkeeper, Celtic should have been three up by half time. Joe Mcnulty and Ross Reardan forcing fine saves.

H.T.: 0-0

With the Celtic defence sound and looking very dangerous in attack, it looked only a matter of time before Celtic would score, but the opposite was to happen, 5 mins after the restart. Cloughbawn's only meaningful attack of the game resulted in a goal. Celtic had withstand pressure as Cloughbawn went in search of a 2nd goal to kill the game. As the 2nd half progressed it was Celtic who looked the stronger outfit, to their credit heads never dropped, as chances were created but missed.

A feature of a very sporting game was that the referee indicated after the game, that he only had to award three freekicks in the entire 70 mins.

A man of the match performance from Adam Connor, who starred at centre back, followed closely by Jamie Cullen.
All players should take credit for a game they could and should have won.
