Rathnure 2 - 4 Gorey Celtic
It's been a long while but finally we got our boots back on with our first league game since Oct.17th. We travelled down to Rathnure by bus and we would like to thank Andy O'Reilly for a safe and comfortable drive . The forced break due to the weather must have helped us as we chalked up our first win this season on a very wet Rathnure pitch.
The lads started very well playing the ball around and keeping good possession and should have had a couple before Jordan Synnott finished of a great move with the sweetest chip past the Rathnure keeper . We kept up the good work and got our reward with a cracking shot from Conor Travers on his bad foot as he says . Then with a bad peice of defending we let Rathnure back into the game . A few minutes later we extended our lead again and up pops Conor Brennan to finish of another great move with a powerful shot past the Rathnure net minder .
With half time coming fast and the lads switched off and letting the opposition get in behind our full back to cross the ball over for the Rathnure striker but Cormac wins the ball from him then miss-kicks the ball into his own net under pressure
H.T.: 2-3
After a good team talk the lads went back out and played the same running game game up the hill as in the first half and dealt with all the long balls Rathnure could kick at them. Rathnure couldn't last much more with our counter attacking football and eventually Conor Travers added his second again with his bad foot to make the score 4-2 with ten minutes left on the clock Rathnure pressed hard but Cormac and the lads played out of their skins and the last few minutes we camped in their half and took shot after shot until the Ref blew the final whistle. We were very good for the win with the lads playing proper football on the heavyground.
